Do you remember my last update of my homestead gardening project? The garden and plants were in and ready, but there wasn’t much show of growth yet. My first post was made only a little over a month ago and take a look at our gardens now! Wowwee! I am overcome with joy by the steady growth of these amazing plants.
The kids and I have been diligently weeding, watering and caring for these plants since they were just seeds. What a rewarding experience to share with them! Look! Our squash plants are flowering. . that means we will be seeing some zucchini starting to grow soon! Shown above are pole beans, yellow squash, eggplant, zucchini squash, and spaghetti squash.
This bed contains our carrots and marigolds. This is my first attempt at growing carrots and I am doing everything I possibly can not to pull them out to see how big they are. Agghh, the suspense is hard to handle!
In the same bed as our carrots and marigolds we also have tomatoes, cabbage, cucumber and a pepper plant.
In our final bed we are attempting to grow peppers, sunflowers, broccoli, spinach, green onions and garlic. Unfortunately, our spinach did not like our garden bed and has all died off before we could harvest any leaves. We are not giving up though! We will try the spinach again in the fall. The sunflowers were doing amazingly. . until the deer ate them and the peppers are so so. .This bed is giving me the most trouble and I am not sure why…
Isn’t it all so lovely? I cannot wait until I can share photos of our produce and meals with you!
Do you have a homestead garden? Which do you prefer, starting from seeds or ready to go plants? Comment with your answer.
