With all of the busy schedules and events we as parents create for our kids, its only natural that our kids are going to feel some pressure, stress and tension from it all. Especially during the school year when they need to get up early, are pushed to learn all day and then sometimes have after school activities such as sports to participate in. With everything else going on, this may not seem like the perfect time of year to start a yoga regime, but it is. Yoga sessions only take a few minutes (20-30 minutes to be exact), but can help your children put their minds in line for learning and set them up for a great day of activities.
This week, my kids and I started practicing Yoga. While we are still quite new to it, we are already gaining the benefits. It is a lovely time of quiet movement in our household. The kids listen, watch and participate with the Move with Me DVD as they pretend to be animals making different movements on the floor. During this time they are not fighting. . they are focused. It is a beautiful thing.
So what exactly is yoga?
In what ways can yoga benefit my kids?
This is the question I wanted to know! Why should I take the time out of my busy day to teach my kids yoga? So I did some research online and here is what I found. Remember, this is just information I found online. You should talk to you doctor if you have concerns 🙂
Yoga is said to:
1. Strengthen growing bodies and teaches flexibility.
2. Enhance concentration.
3. Increase self-esteem.
4. Create relaxation.
5. Spark imagination.
6. Enhance body awareness.
7. Facilitate self discipline.
How can I introduce yoga to my home?
We decided to use an instructional video to help us begin our journey. It was developed just for kids from people who actually have kids. You can see from the videos that they know what kids like and how to keep their attention. The instructor is friendly and fun to watch. Here is a little preview of the program we are using that I found on YouTube.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
