Today I decided to take time out of my day for tea, and what better way is there to have tea than with friends? Recently I have challenged myself to take a look at my life and determine what is really important to me. Through looking at what is really important, I have made it my goal to learn to:
- slow down
- enjoy life more
- form deeper and more meaningful relationships with those around me
I feel that these three things are key elements to having a more full and rich life.
In order to reach for my goals, I decided to stage a mini tea party yesterday for some of the wonderful ladies in my life. With life becoming more and more virtual, it is more important than ever to make time for face to face interaction. The internet has made it easier than ever to keep up to date on what our friends are doing on a daily basis that we often forget to make time to be together in reality; to talk about our lives personally and strengthen our more intimate bonds.
A tea party is such a lovely way to re-connect with old friends, make new friends, relax and enjoy life. We had such a hilarious time at our tea party pretending to be proper, sipping Bigelow tea and eating fresh baked s’mores scones.
My dream tea party would be one set up out in my garden, but since summer has not yet shined upon us, we decided to throw a fun and fancy tea party indoors.
Now, A tea party is not complete without having a few tasty scones to snack on. And with summer on my mind (just having my first s’more a few days ago) I decided to prepare a few homemade s’mores inspired scones. <- Oh yes I did!
If you have never made scones before and are feeling a little bit intimidated, don’t be! This recipe for scones is one of the easiest, fool-proof recipes I know. They are quick to make and taste amazing. Just the right hint of sweetness.
1/2 bag of mini chocolate chips
1/2 cup of crushed graham cracker
2 cups of flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 & 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
Mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and chocolate chips in a large bowl just until blended. Slowly fold in the heavy cream.
Begin the knead the dough in the bowl until combined, about 5-7 kneads.
Toss a little bit of flour and graham crackers onto a flat surface and place your ball of dough in the center. Begin the flatten the dough out into an 8 inch circle. The purpose is to allow the flour and graham cracker to coat the bottom, not to mix into the dough.
Next, cut your dough into slices and transfer them to a lined baking sheet.
Bake the scones at 425 degrees for about 12 minutes or until slightly browned and centers are no longer goowey. Remove from heat and allow to cool on the pan.
Serve with a dollop of marshmallow creme and garnish with crushed graham cracker crumbs (*optional).
