To begin, the kids and I decided that we wanted to decorate our Thankful Tree to make it more festive and fun to have in the house. We knew that we would need something light and colorful, and we couldn’t find anything like that in the stores in Thanksgiving colors, so we made some garland ourselves.
Making garland is super easy. I just took a dull head needles and thread it with silver elastic cord. Then I simply pushed the needle and thread through my multicolored pom poms and spread them out to my liking. We then simply draped them over our tree to decorate.
After our tree was festive looking, we talked about all the things that we are thankful for. The kids each answered with a list of all their favorite things, chocolate included. We then decided that we would write down our favorite words on small chalkboard tags and hang them on our tree as a family. Then, each day, we could read them, change them or add to them as we see necessary.
It may be a small gesture of thankfulness, but I think that our little Thankful Tree has helped my young children and myself to become more conscious of our blessings. For the rest of the month it will stand as a daily reminder in our home.
