Feather & Wild
Maybe you’ve seen me recently in photos wearing my new favorite t-shirt brand apparel – it’s the kelly green tank that reads “Manifest”? I love that shirt. But it’s not just because it’s comfy and cute – because it is – it’s because the brand portrays a message that I can relate to. The brand message that I most closely relate to is their “Do It Scared” motto. The Feather & Wild brand has set out to create a culture of inspiration, connection and encouragement between those who have the desire to do big things – such as travel – and those who are willing to share their struggles and accomplishments with each other along the way.
Dani Schnakenberg, creator of Feather & Wild, approaches her business motto as this:
We believe in inspiration, encouragement and connection. I believe that the human experience isn’t meant to be a lonely one and that being vulnerable and open fosters true connection. When we reach out to one another with the intention of inspiring and encouraging – that’s truly living. My hope [with the Feather & Wild brand ] is that we [can] cultivate a community that inspires and encourages one another. A community that’s accepting.
While the “Do It Scared” motto was more of a secondary inspiration to the business model – it definitely works well within their overall t-shirt designs including environmental impact causes and a bit of yoga humor. It also hits home with me and reminds me to be open about my struggles and go forward with the hope that others will share their struggles with me – so we all might find comfort and connection.
I have been wearing my Feather & Wild brand t-shirt for several weeks now and still simply adore it. I’ve found my Manifest shirt to be soft, form fitting and easy to wash. I also found out that the company uses shirt blanks from a company that is W.R.A.P Certified, which uses absolutely no sweatshops, and is very eco-conscious. They also use water based inks and are currently working on adding organic options to their brand portfolio as well. Dani, the owner of Feather & Wild, said she is always exploring ways that we can use the brand to make a global impact on our environment. “We’re taking baby steps toward that with our Shirts for a Cause.” – Dani Schnakenberg
Join the Do It Scared Movement
If you’re interested in joining this movement of connection then prepare yourself for the launch of Feather & Wild’s new Do It Scared series. This series will include weekly blog posts that tell stories of (mostly) women who have accomplished something even though they were absolutely terrified at the time – big moves, leaving/starting careers, personal growth, even having kids. This new series can be found at Feather & Wild Blog starting in May and readers with stories to tell can also submit those for approval to Story Submissions.
I think many of us struggle daily with the conflict between doing what we feel compelled to do and what we feel is “safer”. Which do you choose?
By far my favorite thing [about this journey of opening Feather & Wild] has been all of the people I’ve met and stories I’ve heard since launching our Do It Scared shirt and now the series. So many of our customers have gone on to become friends, collaborators and cheerleaders. *I’m* inspired and encouraged by the people I’ve met . . – Dani Schnakenberg
