When was the last time you went on a date with your loved one? For some reason we personally often allow this part of our relationship to fall by the wayside. Life gets busy with school, work, and playing/traveling as a family. After everything is said and done, there really doesn’t ever seem to be any time left for “us”. A few nights ago Iridescence, an upscale restaurant located in Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Hotel, invited my husband and I out for a “date night” so we could see everything that is new and updated. Of course, we said yes! Here is how the evening went.
Iridescence | MotorCity Casino Hotel
While we’ve heard many things about the Iridescence restaurant atop the MotorCity Casino Hotel, we’d never had the privilege of dining there before. As we walked into the hotel side of MotorCity Casino Hotel and headed up to the sixteenth floor, I could feel myself getting giddy. It had been too long since we’ve spoiled ourselves at a nice dinner – one that didn’t include me cooking it, serving it, and cleaning up all the spills in between cold bites. You get me, right?
Once we stepped off the elevators and turned the corner, the restaurant opened up to a beautiful view of smiling faces, large glass doors, and a dining room that was filled with the most lovely dancing rays of sunshine. As we were escorted into the newly renovated private wine room for a few appetizers I could easily see and feel how this place aims to spoil their guests. I stood in awe at the rows of wine bottles cascading down from the ceiling, illuminated by the light of the hanging chandeliers. I felt spoiled. However, it isn’t only the reservable wine room that made me feel that way – the entire evening did. Here’s how.
Gaze Out Over the Impeccable View.
It’s hard not to feel like royalty when you have such a perfect view of the kingdom – and in this case, the kingdom is the city of Detroit. As we stood at the large picture windows, which nearly encompassed the room, I could see all of my favorite views such as the Ambassador Bridge, the old train station, and other dreamy sights that filled my heart with butterflies. It is not often that you can gaze over a city in such a perfect setting of peace. As I stood there with my husband and took in the sights of the city that we love, I felt spoiled.

Dine on Artfully Crafted Food.
As we made our way over to our table, which was directly beside the chef and everyone preparing our meal, I could see the craftsmanship that went into each dish being brought out. We were handed an interactive menu on a tablet to make our choices. As I scrolled through the menu, I could click on a meal to read more about it and preview a photo of what was to come. This type of service made ordering easy and I’ll have to admit, a bit fun!
As each course was delivered to the table it was met with gasps. The art that went into displaying each piece on the plate was beautiful – almost too beautiful to eat. However, as we took in the aroma of each meal our stomachs prompted us to turn a blind eye towards our hearts. This was only temporary, because as soon as our mouths tasted the meal our hearts once again won over.
As I closed my eyes and savored the meal with every bite, I felt spoiled.
Indulge in Attentive Service.
We joked about it that evening but every single time my husband would leave his seat to use the restroom or leave to take a photo out the window, he would return to a beautifully folded napkin at this place. Without fail, every time he would walk away the waitress would come over and prepare his seat for his return.
Honestly, I can’t think of another time when I’ve ever felt so spoiled before.
Swoon Over Delightful Desserts.
When we finished our meal and made our way onto dessert, we found that as much attention was put into each dish was also put into each dessert. They were artfully and beautifully created. Just take a look at my dessert which arrived as a chocolate sphere, then as hot caramel sauce was poured over it opened up into a chocolate flower with a small cake in the center.
The time that was put into creating a dessert that looked as beautiful as it tasted made me feel spoiled.
