Hello, Summer Break?
Sometimes I wish adults got summer vacation away from work in the same way that the kids get it away from school, am I right? Three months to do whatever we please, whenever? Since that’s obviously not the case and we still have to keep up with work and chores (and the laundry. . how is there so much laundry?!), I decided to put together a list of my favorite summertime activities that one could enjoy near home. Because come on. Even though there are still things to be done around work and home, I don’t really want to miss out on my entire beautiful summer because of it!
For my list, I decided to put together six of my favorite things to enjoy in the summer. Most of them can be done anywhere you live and some of them don’t take very much time at all. Once you get done reading through my list, I invite you to share with me in the comments your favorite summer “staycation” activity to do near your home.
Plus, in order to make sure your summer is going swimmingly, we’ve got an amazing JORD gift card giveaway for you! Be sure to read all the way to the end to see how to enter.
Ready to bring on the summer “staycation” ideas?? Here we go…
6 Simple Ways to Make the Most of Summer “TIME”
1. Relax on a Beach.
No matter where you are, a beach typically makes it feel like a vacation. The warm salty air. The sand between your toes. If you’re looking for a great way to enjoy your summer without traveling far from home, spending time on the beach is always my first recommendation.
2. Can’t Find a Beach? Find a Pool!
Sometimes a beach just isn’t happening. In this instance, nothing beats being on a pool float while you lounge around in the water. Personally, I prefer the ones that look like donuts – but that’s just me.
If you don’t have a pool, ask a friend if you can crash at theirs or search for a community pool nearby. Also, sometimes hotels will allow you to rent time in their pool for a low fee; much less than if you’d booked an actual room for the night.
3. Grab a Cool Beverage and Book.
Sometimes I can grab a moment of summer by simply getting an iced coffee and shady place to read. While it’s not always possible to travel away from home, taking a break from reality is always possible with a good book. Bonus points if you have a hammock to use!
4. Head to a U-Pick Farm.
One of our favorite things to do in the summer is to utilize what makes our region thrive. Luckily for us, we have several farms around us that offer U-Pick berries and fruits. Spending the day on the farm, gathering our own food, is a huge change of scenery. Think about what makes your region special.
5. Visit the Local Farmers Market.
When we don’t want to do the work but still want to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, we tend to head over to the local farmers market. Here we can wander beautiful produce, buy some homemade treats, or grab a fresh bouquet of flowers to brighten the home. Eating fresh food and enjoying the fragrance of nature is a great way to enjoy the bounties of summer.
6. Eat Outdoors.
Eating outdoors is easily done but to me, it makes all the difference in helping it feel a little bit more like summer. So fire up the barbecue, invite over a few friends, and spend some time enjoying the area outside of your home. Besides, food kind of tastes better when it’s being eaten outdoors, doesn’t it? Maybe I’m weird.
Make Your Time Count with JORD
No matter what you’re doing with your summer, it’s about making the time count. Every day we make our own choices on how we want to respond to the way things arise. We could either be upset that there is work to be done during a lovely summer day or we can create our own happiness with the opportunities we have. This belief is just one of the reason I fell in love with the brand JORD.
“The value of a watch is not in being able to tell how much time has passed, but in being aware of the need to make that time count. Moments are bigger than minutes and your watch should tell more than time.” – JORD website
Besides being a really cool brand that aligns with how I feel about life, they also make some pretty amazing watches. This one is mine, it’s from the Frankie Series; Koa & Ash. Doesn’t it have such a unique retro vibe?
