For the past several weeks, my family and I have been testing the fresh-keeping power of the Vacuvita; a home food vacuum storage system. We tested the home base with our bread and the individual containers and bags with our farm picked produce. If you’ve been looking for a way to reduce or eliminate the food waste in your home, you might want to read on…

Summers Best Pick | Vacuvita Food Storage System
Every summer, my kids and I love to head to the local farms and farmers market to pick fresh produce. Being that we live in the midwest, this type of activity has a short shelf life. We take it while we can!
On our latest trip to pick blueberries the kids were having so much fun that they wanted to keep on picking, long after the normal amount we would typically get. I usually only allow the kids to pick enough that we could eat in a day and a little bit extra to bake with. Too much and I risk wasting money or the fresh produce going bad before we can eat it all.
There’s nothing I hate more than throwing away food that’s spoiled.
Remembering that we had the Vacuvita at home, I decided to allow them to carry on this one time. After all, it was a great opportunity to see what the Vacuvita could actually do.
The Home Base | The Root of The VacuVita System
The Home Base is the center of the Vacuvita food storage system. This is the part that has found its new home on my kitchen counter top and honestly, I don’t hate that! Just look at its retro appeal! Those curved lines…
What’s better yet is that the entire system comes in several awesomely fun colors, like a funky orange (Royal Orange) or retro turquoise blue (Oval Room Blue), and even a vintage olive green. Plus, if you’re more of a classic kind of person, there are colors like black or white to choose from as well.
The home base is the main component of the entire system and it contains the power to remove the air from the individual containers and also the food bags. Although, while the home base not being used with the other components, it also doubles as an air tight bread box! How great is that?
We’ve also found that this makes a great place to store cereals, chips, and other things that lose crisp with the moisture in the summer air.
My favorite part about the home base, however, is how futuristic it is with a “one touch” opening button. I know, a retro blogger loving something futuristic? I totally did! One touch of the button and the top opens on its own with a “psshhooot” sound. Love it!
The Individual Containers
Another part of the Vacuvita system that we found useful were the four high-quality containers that could also able to be vacuum sealed. By using the home base and the tubing included, we found it easy to remove the air out of our leftovers and other foods that would spoil quickly otherwise.
But how do I know when something sealed with the Vacuvita food storage system is ready to be pitched?
Know When Your Food Spoils with The Vacuvita App
Here’s another cool futuristic element of the Vacuvita! Each of the food storage containers are printed with a scannable QR code that works directly with the Vacuvita app! This optional part of the system allows you to scan the code into the app, designate what is being stored, and then the app will keep you updated on the freshness of the food inside that container!
Just another great way this system is aimed to help reduce food waste in your home. Isn’t that incredible?
The Food Bags
The final element of the Vacuvita food storage system is the storage bags. These can be used to store items in the freezer or even used to sous-vide! Obviously, after our long day on the farm, we enjoy using them to freeze all of the extra blueberries…
