I Keep It In My Pocket
Not for a rainy day but for the exact opposite. To use – frequently!
I simply love knowing that when we need a break from the everyday mundane or when we need a last minute trip out of the house to get rid of those hard to tame wiggles, it’s there.
Having a membership to my local zoo is a great way for me to always have an answer to that “What should we do today” question. And by having and using our membership to the Detroit Zoo, I’ve learned that this little card can do so much more than simply get us into the park!
Seriously, did you know your Detroit Zoo membership could do all of this? If you don’t yet have a membership, read to the end to find out how to get one.
The Detroit Zoo
The Detroit Zoo has always captured our hearts because of their true desire to serve animals. Not only does this zoo thrive on sharing interesting animal facts to get kids excited about learning, but they also share facts about the humane treatment of animals and what each one of us can do to help.
Through the Detroit Zoological Society, many animals are saved or rescued. Our support allows them to continue these efforts such as guarding against species extinction, it allows them training and funds to respond to environmental emergencies such as oil spills to safeguard the wildlife, and to help with conservation projects across the world.
While the proper care and conservation of animals is our number one reason for wanting to support the Detroit Zoo with a membership, here are seven other things having a membership to the zoo can do.
7 Awesome Ways to Make the Most of Your Detroit Zoo Membership
1 . Use It to Get Free or Discounted Access to other AZA Accredited Zoos.
We were super excited to find that while traveling across the US and Canada, we could use our membership to get free or discounted access to other AZA accredited zoos and aquariums. With the frequency that we are on the road, this was a big deal for us. Plus, when we’re in Detroit, this also means FREE admission and parking to Belle Isle Nature Center.
2. Use It to Get Free parking at the Detroit Zoo.
Typically parking is an additional $7 per car but with a membership, it is free during normal business hours. If you spend a lot of days at the zoo, this can really add up!
3. Use It to Get Through the Secret Members-Only Entrance.
Ok, so it’s not really a secret but that totally makes it sound cooler, right? Although, I think having an entrance only for members to use and skip the long lines is totally cool enough on its own. Just another one of the added perks to supporting the zoo with a membership.
4. Use It to Purchase Advance Tickets Sales to Highly Sought After Events.
Did you know that the Detroit Zoo also offers several really cool special programs throughout the year? One of our favorites to attend is the highly sought after Wild Lights – a holiday event where they light up the campus with quite a vibrant display of shimmering color. There are also programs in the summer, near Halloween, and some just for the adults!
Having a zoo membership gives us the ability to purchase our tickets before they release to the public – just fair warning, the earlier evening time slots go fast!!
5. Use It to Do More for Less.
Since the Detroit Zoo has so much to offer in terms of entertainment through their carousel, 4D movie theater, simulator ride, and the Tauber Family Railroad, having a membership makes sense because you can do all of this for less! With the Detroit Zoo’s total experience package, each member of your family can get one ticket to each of these attractions for only $12 total. That’s a saving of $14 per person; this would cost a non-member $26 per person.
What’s great is that the tickets can be saved and used on another trip to the zoo within the same season. This ticket package can be purchased at the membership office at the front of the park.
6. Use It for Special Member-Only Savings.
By having a membership to the Detroit Zoo, we can get special discounts in the park such as 10% off regular priced merchandise at the gift shop or access to special member only souvenir cups with free refills. Plus, we can also get $4 off with a member-only coupon at one of our local favorite restaurants; Buddy’s Pizza.
7. Use It Year Round.
The Detroit Zoo is a location that can be enjoyed with your family year round, its open 362 days per year. In fact, some of our favorite times that we’ve visited the zoo has been during the “off-season”.
