Layering clothes is not something I’m really good at – but I am putting in the effort to improve! Today on the blog we are going to chat about different ways to layer fall clothing. Plus, I’ve got an example of a way I’ve done that. As always, be sure to leave your advice in the comments or tweet them to me @raisingdickjane! I love to hear your thoughts as well.
Dressed and Done
Now that the weather is starting to chill, I don’t mind the extra fabric of layering. However, it still begs the question with me as to HOW to properly layer my clothing. To be completely upfront, this is not something I really excel in – but I’m learning.
Let me give you a little insight into my world when I look at my closet:
1 . Oh look, I’ve got a sweater – it looks nice.
2. Yep, I’ve got pants – they also look nice and probably match that sweater.
3. My body is covered – therefore I’m done.
That’s about it. As long as I have clothes on, I don’t really think about adding extra layers for fashion.
Is this how you are too? Well, recently I joined Stitch Fix and surprisingly, I am getting a lot more than just clothes! I’ve actually been getting coaching on how to layer up and dress my clothes from my personal stylist!
Before we go any further, no, Stitch Fix is not sponsoring this post or asking me to say this. I pay for these boxes completely on my own. However, I just figured that if this is where my style advice is coming from than they totally deserve the credit. So, you rock Stitch Fix stylist!!
Ready for That Fall Layered Look
Would you ever think to put a crochet vest over a sweater? I totally wouldn’t! However, I simply love the way this looks. Check it out.
I love the grey stripes, paired with the maroon vest. It’s not something I would have put together on my own but it totally rocks!
Plus, check out that gold leaf necklace – this is also from Stitch Fix. Did you know they can also send accessories and shoes?
I think that part of the reason this look works is because this sweater is not very bulky. It is a lightweight sweater with flattering stripes. Would this work with a bulkier sweater – probably not but you can correct me if I’m wrong.
What I’ve Learned
1 . Lightweight sweaters are great for layering.
2. Use a pattern and a pop of color (like the vest).
3. Accent with stunning jewelry. Accessorize, baby!
4. Buy pieces that can have a multipurpose. This vest can be worn with so many different outfits! Same goes with the sweater and necklace.
That’s about it this time. What do you have to add? Comments are open or tweet me @raisingdickjane. I’d LOVE to hear from you!
