Anybody up for something chocolaty? I know, I know. . silly question. So, today I was feeling a bit nostalgic and decided to make up a quick batch of this old time favorite. Who here remembers eating “puppy chow” as a kid? I do, and just in case you’ve forgotten how to make it, I’ve shared the easy to make recipe below.
Here is what you will need:
8 Cups of Chex Mix cereal
1 Cup Chocolate Chips
1/4 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Powdered Sugar
Once the mixture has melted, remove the pot from the heat and carefully stir in the cereal until coated.
Allow the mixture to cool slightly. Meanwhile, pour the powdered sugar into two zippered bags. Next scoop the cereal into the bags on top of the powdered sugar and combine by shaking the bags around.
You can next put the bags into the fridge to cool if you are ready to eat it right away, like I usually am, or you can add in extras such as M&M’s, extra chocolate chips or your favorite type of candy to mix things up a bit. However, for me, the original recipe is still my favorite.
Just remember, this treat is not actually for puppies. Its a human thing. 🙂 But here is a fun fact: this treat was truly first named “puppy chow” because of its close resemblance to dog food. Yuck! I know, you probably could have guessed that one, but don’t fret, it tastes nothing like dog food.
Do you have a favorite nostalgic treat that you like to recreate or wish you could recreate? Share it with me and maybe we can give it a try.
