Now that summer is here, we need to make the most of it – and that means by soaking up as much fun in the sun as possible! Today we are going to talk about how we stay refreshed during the hot summer days with our favorite homemade fruit slushy recipe and how we stay protected with Neutrogena® sunscreens so we can maximize our fun in the sun.
Woot Woot for summer! My favorite time of the year! Since summer here in Michigan really only lasts about three months, we like to soak as much of it up as we can while we have it around. Our summer days normally consist of waking up and heading outside – either to the pool, the park, the zoo or to the bike trails. We are the type of family that just can’t sit still.
When I had my son, we were worried that our time in the sun would be cut because he had such bad eczema and sensitive skin – every time I put sunscreen on him, he would turn red in irritation. Poor kid. Since outdoor play time and his skin health were both so important to me, I searched around until I found a product that would work for him. That’s when I found Neutrogena® Sensitive Skin™. This sunscreen is made with naturally sourced ingredients and has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the National Eczema Association. We love it! He no longer experiences the red irritation and can now get back to being a little boy – playing in the yard and splashing in the pool. Since finding our first Neutrogena® sunscreen product, we have now added more of their products to our collection such as the pure & free™ liquid for under my make-up and the pure & free™ baby – which I keep in my purse for on the go face and ear touch up’s.
Since today we are celebrating fun in the sun, I wanted to share with you our favorite summer time treat – homemade fruit slushies! But before we start, I should tell you that this refreshing little drink takes about 4-8 hours to make because it needs to be frozen, so I recommend making it the night before a day of play so it will be ready when the afternoon cool down is needed. Let’s take a look at how easy it is to make.
Tropical Fruit Slushies
1- 12 oz can frozen lemonade concentrate
1- 12 oz can frozen orange juice concentrate
1- 46 oz. can of pineapple juice
lemon-lime flavored soft drink
pineapple slices for garnish
Allow the frozen concentrates to thaw slightly – just enough so they may be mixed in with the other ingredients.
In a large bowl – combine the 12 oz can of frozen lemonade concentrate, 12 oz can of frozen orange juice concentrate and 46 oz of pineapple juice. Stir to combine.
Place the mixture into the freezer for 4-6 hours or until frozen.
Remove the mixture from the freezer and allow to thaw slightly – just until scoop-able.
Add a few scoops of the fruit mixture into a glass and top with a serving of lemon-lime flavored soft drink. Garnish with fresh pineapple slices.
Now we’re all well prepared to get back out in the sun and have a great summer break! Do you have a favorite thing to do or eat in the summer? Tell me about it in the comments.
