Disclosure: We have been invited to cover this event in return for free tickets.
The brand new LEGOLAND® Discovery Center has not yet opened it’s doors to the public (Opening March 25th) but we were able to get a sneak preview in order to give you an idea of what to expect. So here it is in a nutshell – EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived today to the media preview for the all new LEGOLAND® Discovery Center. Although after experiencing the exhibit today with my children, I can’t wait to spill the beans – or should I say the LEGOS® for all of you!
LEGOLAND® DISCOVERY CENTER MICHIGAN
If you’ve been counting down the days until the grand opening with us, you probably already know that the new LEGOLAND® Discovery Center is set to open on March 25th in the 6th district of the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills. This exhibit will be the second entertainment feature added to the outlets recently after the parent company MERLIN Entertainments Group, LTD opened SEALIFE Michigan back in January 2015.
Four Things NOT to Miss Out On During Your Visit to LEGOLAND®
The LEGOLAND® exhibit is made up of several different areas – there are rides, a factory tour, building stations, play areas, a 4D cinema, party rooms and even a cafe! While I don’t want to spoil everything for you – I will quickly share our top 4 favorite things to do at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Michigan. Before I do that though, I want to remind you to come prepared for a full day of fun as this place might be larger than you originally expected – it was for me!
Seriously, LEGOLAND® has a ride in it – like a big ride, not a little simulator. When you enter the Kingdom Quest area you are ushered into a moving cart that can seat two in the front and two in the back. After the safety bar is lowered the ride starts moving through a maze of games where you are fighting against the “bad guys” with a laser gun. When you hit the moving targets, you rack up points – it’s a competition between all the members in your cart to see who can get the most points. But don’t get too competitive because your going to have your photo taken at some point before the ride is up – so you may want to have a smile on your face.
Love Detroit? Do you think you could point out area architecture and landmarks? Here’s you chance to prove it! MINILAND® is a LEGO® sized model of the city complete with the GM Ren Cen, the people mover and even the Ambassador bridge. Be sure to pay close attention to the little LEGO® people because some of them move and can be controlled via interaction points throughout the exhibit.
There are actually a couple of play areas throughout LEGOLAND® – different areas for different age groups. This is something that I was super happy to see incorporated as it gives kids a chance to wear off some energy and gives the parents a chance to take a break after all the fun we’ve already had.
4D LEGO® Cinema
Have you ever been to a 4D cinema? It’s like 3D, but with extra effects that you can see, feel and sometimes smell. This short video took us on an epic adventure and the 4D effects were awesome – the kids were bursting with laughter. That’s it – I’m not spoiling the surprises.
