What does it look like outside where you live or are traveling right now? In the midwest, the tree’s are putting on a show. Autumn is by far my favorite season because everywhere I look it feels like I’m inside a painting! Although even with all of the obvious beauty surrounding me, sometimes I make the mistake of forgetting to actually look at it.
I wanted to take a moment today to simply share a few photos of my world, right now the way I see it, with you. I think that sometimes it is important to stop and appreciate what we already have. Too many times I find myself thinking about what others have, what I wish I had, and the disease that my son does have. If I would allow it, these things would easily consume my mind.
I feel that it is all too easy to fall into a state of mental blinding. I go there often – swept away in my own river of thoughts, completely missing out on what I have that’s wonderful right now.
For instance, yesterday, as I was in the midst of feeling overwhelmed and upset about life, I looked up and suddenly noticed where I was. In that moment it was as if my eyes newly came into focus. Right there in front of me was the most beautiful lake, trees glowing with color all around it, and there in the water was a perfect reflection waving in the glistening water ripples.
I stood there, staring. This incredible view was right in front of me the entire time and I didn’t even notice it.
Of course, it is important to plan for and think about the future, but sometimes it is nice to simply appreciate what you have right now, right in front of you.
Today I urge you to make a conscious effort to look around you. What do you see? What have you been missing? Share an image of something beautiful in your life with me in the comments or tweet it to me @raisingdickjane.
Let’s fill the feed today with autumn happiness!
