Remember that song; Life is a Highway? Well, it is so easy to get going on the highway of life and forget to take an exit ramp once in awhile to slow down or experience something new. What does the highway have anyways? I’d so much rather drive the back roads and immerse myself in each location I travel. The same goes for life – it’s so much more meaningful to me to experience all that life has to offer, not simply make it to the end destination. Recently, I was invited as a guest to experience all that the D.Tour Spa and MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit had to offer. This experience helped me remember why it’s good to sometimes slow down and take a detour from everyday life at least once in awhile.
Disclosure: I was invited to experience this hotel and spa as a guest of the MotorCity Casino Hotel. All opinions are my own.
Life is a Highway | Take the Detour
Having goals for the new year is great but how much are you giving up to reach them? Time with your kids, spouse, alone time? Are you losing your sanity to anxiety and stress? I’ve been there. I too have wanted something so bad that it was all I could think about – and then I got burnt out. From that lesson I learned that it is important to have goals, but like the childhood fable – slow and steady wins the race. It’s not a dash to the finish line, it’s sometimes taking the detour to refuel your creativity and mindset, then getting back on route.
Drop the Baggage at the Door
When I checked into my room at the MotorCity Casino Hotel, I immediately felt a sense of relaxation. It had been a rough couple of weeks, dealing with my sons P.A.N.D.A.S diagnosis, the holidays, and all that comes along with a work from home/homeschooling situation; however, the moment I walked in the room, I felt that I might be able to let that all go for at least a little while. I laid my baggage (both physical and mental) on the bed and looked around.
The room was beautiful and obviously designed for relaxation. There was a white robe calling my name in the bathroom, a separate tub area ready for lounging, and a beautiful view of downtown Detroit beckoning me from my window. This was different from my everyday life and exactly what I needed. I could go on and on about how lovely the room was, but here – let me show you instead:
Sometimes we need to treat ourselves – do something that brings back that spark we once had. This trip ended up being my lighter fluid. I needed it. I needed to feel refueled again in so many areas. That is why I was thankful to hear that the MotorCity Casino Hotel also had a spa.
Refueling at the D.Tour Spa | MotorCity Casino Hotel
After checking into the MotorCity Casino Hotel, I next made my way downstairs to the D.Tour Spa. The spa resides within the MotorCity Casino and has an entire floor to itself. As you exit the elevator, you are greeted by the sounds, smells, and spirit of a spa location. My step off the elevator was a step away from the chaos of life – like entering a haven of retreat. I was immediately immersed.
After experiencing the MotorCity Music Massage and spending time wading in the pool, sauna, and lounging in the resting rooms, I realized that this spa has a lot going for it! I mean, it has both male and female sides of the spa (which look almost identical with a few exceptions) and it also has couples rooms for a shared relaxation experience; plus all of the other things I’ve come to expect from a spa experience and more.
Even if I told you how nice the D.Tour Spa is, it’s really something you’ve got to see for yourself to believe. Take a virtual tour with me:
Moving Forward | Getting Back on Route
After spending just one night at the MotorCity Casino hotel and D.Tour spa I felt renewed. I let go of so much anxiety and stress and wondered to myself why this trip was more of an exception than not. I came back to my work, my kids, and my family with a renewed sense of enthusiasm.
While it’s wonderful to hit the highway of life, remember to once in awhile take a detour. See something new, renew your spirit, or simply just take a moment to breathe it all in and relax. You’re worth it.
