Far are the days when I thought the YouTube social media platform was only good for watching nonsense home videos. Would you believe that there are actually educational videos on there? Today I am going to share with you how we use YouTube to inspire at home art projects with our kids and which channels we keep coming back to again and again!
We Love to Create Art!
I know this because I have shelled out a lot of money to our local craft supply store over the last few years in an attempt to keep their little artistic souls satisfied. We’ve bought building sets, bead sets – truthfully, if it’s in a set, we’ve probably tried it. Then, when I finally realized that I have most likely exhausted all of the resources of pre-made kits that come with art guidance out there, I decided to turn to YouTube instead.
A quick search for kids craft ideas on YouTube brought me to a page filled with amazing tutorials for kids. They were fun, helpful, and my kids took to them right away. In no time we were set up at the kitchen counter painting our own masterpieces on canvas – following the easy step by step instructions laid out right there on my computer screen. When we finished, each of our canvases looked slightly different – even though we were following the same guide. I loved that we could all follow the same instructions, but have the flexibility to make each of our paintings our own.
Using YouTube as an at home art guide is something I’ve come back to time and time again. With the seemingly endless supply of new videos every day, we are always sure to find something that tickles our fancy. One day we might paint on a canvas, the next we might learn to draw using our numbers and letters. The list goes on and on.
YouTube has proven itself to me as an excellent guide to at-home art with kids and an excellent go-to when we’re simply looking for something fun to do! Here are a few of our favorite channels which we use when we are creating art together as a family – both at home and while on the road.
Our Favorite Art Focused Kids Channels on YouTube
MUFFALO POTATO – This happens to be my kids’ #1 favorite show. This channel uses numbers and letters to teach drawing skills (which we all love). All you need is paper and a pencil! This channel is great for long road trips.
The Art Sherpa for Kids – My kids love to follow along with this channel and so do I. The Art Sherpa offers painting tutorials for both kids and adults that are easy to follow and fun to do. This one happens to be one of my favorite paintings because it comes with the message to be yourself.
Art for Kids Hub – I love how this dad creates art together with his kids in an easy to follow, fun way. My kids love seeing the different ways art can come together as the dad/kid teams work together on screen. This family is too cute and hard not to love!
These are just our top three favorite channels, but there are many more! Tell us which YouTube art channels are your favorites in the comment section below and we’ll be sure to check it out too.
Have fun creating art together!
