Disclosure: I am a part of Cedar Point’s media program. I am given free tickets to access the park for special events in order to cover them on my site. All opinions are my own.
Thinking of planning a trip to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio? Now’s a great time to go! Each weekend, May 19th through June 11th, guests of the park can purchase additional tickets to experience Cedar Point’s Brew and BBQ event. This event includes craft beer and bbq tasting, along with live music and other fun attractions. Read on to find out more about attending this event and what you can expect.
Cedar Point’s Brew & BBQ Event | What is it?
The 2017 season at Cedar Point is going to be a doozy! If you’ve been considering planning a trip over to Sandusky, Ohio to check out this high energy amusement park – this year would be a good time to go. Throughout the 2017 season, Cedar Point has several fun events planned for park-goers beyond simply the thrill of the rides. The first event, which runs May 19-June 11th, is appropriately titled BREW and BBQ.
Cedar Point’s Brew and BBQ event is a craft beer and bbq tasting event. Park guests over the age of 21 can purchase access to this event which includes over 100 craft, micro, and specialty brews available for tasting. There are also five bbq stations set up serving regionally inspired dishes, such as Texas pork nachos and more.
Tickets to this event are available at the entrance of FrontierTown or can be purchased ahead of time as a park ticket + event bundle. Upon admission, each BREW and BBQ guest is given 15 tickets to use for tasting. Each ticket gets you a 4 oz. sample of beer, bbq, or dessert. Three tickets will get you a full 12 oz beer or a full meal.
The event starts at 2 pm and runs until the park closes. I decided to head into the park as soon as it opened for the day so I could get some rides out of the way before heading over to the event. What a great idea! By the time 2 pm rolled around, this event was a welcomed opportunity to sit back and relax.
The Foodies Delight | BBQ Stations
After spending the morning having fun in the sun, my body was telling me that it was time to eat! As I walked through Cedar Point towards FrontierTown, where the event was being held, I could pick up on notes of the bbq scent being swept throughout the air. Even though there were signs leading me to the event all along the path, in reality, I think I could have found it by the smell alone. It smelled so good!
The first station I came to was the Memphis BBQ spot. This booth had pork shoulder sandwiches with smokey bbq sauce and smoked sausage to choose from. I opted for the sandwich and was seriously blown away by how good it was! It did not remind me of typical park food at all.
To be honest, I am pretty picky about my bbq but this was amazing. Plus, I got all of this for just one ticket! Seriously, at this point, I am sold on this event already.
At this booth, you can find pulled pork and chicken sliders. I decided to switch things up a bit and tried the pulled chicken, which I broke into sections so I could try all of the three sauces provided: vinegar, mustard, and smoky bbq.
After tasting it, I felt a bit bad for the pulled chicken. I should have known that the taste of chicken, going up against the savory taste of pork, wouldn’t be a fair fight. After the amazing pork sandwich we just tasted before, the chicken didn’t have a chance.
Back to the pork.
Have you ever tried pork nachos? If you haven’t, you’re seriously missing out! However, now can be your opportunity because the Texas BBQ booth at the BREWS and BBQ event has both smoked sliced brisket on Texas toast and BBQ carnitas nachos with creamy cheddar and pickled jalapenos. My recommendation is to try them both- it’s worth it.
Nashville Blue Plate BBQ
If you’re tired of bbq and need something different to excite your palate, step into the Nashville Blue Plate restaurant. This spot is a staple of FrontierTown and offers mac n cheese, potato wedges, and coleslaw for your tickets along with a few bbq choices of their own. Plus, since this stop isn’t a booth, it’s a great place to get out of the sun and sit at tables in the air conditioning for a few.
Kansas City BBQ
I saved this booth for last because it also had dessert! After grabbing a bit of smokehouse ribs with bbq sauce or dry rub, this booth also has pecan tartlets and banana cream pie for that final sweet kiss. My choice was the banana cream pie and I was again smitten with the flavors.
The Beers | Craft, Micro, and Specialty Brews
Between sampling the mouth watering BBQ at this event, I was able to use my tickets for beer samples from over 40 different breweries! Big names such as Great Lakes, New Belgium, Harpoon, Leinenkugel, and Fatheads were all represented. Plus, I was introduced to several breweries that I hadn’t yet tried such as Maui Brewing Company, Small Town Brewery, and The Brew Kettle who creates Cedar Point’s exclusive beers!
Cedar Point Exclusives
This is exciting news! Did you know Cedar Point now has six unique beers to call their own? Next time you head to the park, be sure to look for these:
- Shandy Shores: a bright and sunny shandy with real blood orange and a hint of mango that celebrates the new Cedar Point Shores Waterpark

- Rougabrew: a light and refreshing Munich-style lager
- Iron Horse Porter: a full-bodied porter, dark and rich with hints of coffee and chocolate
