As the heat of summer rolls back in, there’s one treat in our house that always makes a comeback. Find out today how we make one of our family favorites: the ginger ale float. Plus, find out how Hudsonville Ice Cream is bringing the nostalgia back with their newest creation: the Comeback Cooler.
This post has been sponsored by Hudsonville Ice Cream, however, all opinions are my own.
The Comeback Cooler is The Flavor of Detroit
If there’s one thing growing up around Detroit has taught me, it’s that the combined taste of ginger ale and ice cream equals perfection. It’s a midwest summer classic known by many as the Boston Cooler: a few scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with a chilled ginger ale soda. There’s nothing quite like it.
Without surprise, when Hudsonville Ice Cream opened up a contest for the best Flavor of Detroit idea, this throwback taste soared to the top.
Submissions for the newest flavor to join Hudsonville Ice Cream’s Michigan-themed line-up came rushing in. The grand prize was $500 and the winning flavor idea to be put into full production in the fall of 2017. With over 2,500 submissions, the winning flavor idea came from Tracy Heureux of Plymouth, Michigan – which she appropriately titled the “Comeback Cooler”.
The Big Reveal at Rock City Eatery
In order to reveal the winning idea, Hudsonville Ice Cream held a reveal party at the Rock City Eatery in Detroit. To our excitement, we were invited! A small batch of the newest flavor, the Comeback Cooler, was also there to make its debut.
To give you an idea of how the Comeback Cooler tastes, I can only best describe it as a smooth vanilla ice cream with swirls of thickened ginger ale syrup weaved throughout. Imagine the smooth creaminess of the vanilla paired with the slight spice of ginger. Heavenly.
With the Comeback Cooler, Hudsonville has truly captured this classic Detroit flavor and made it new again. All I can say is that it’s going to be a tough choice. I adore all of the Hudsonville flavors such as Tiger Traxx and Pure Michigan Winter Campfire. However, the Comeback Cooler may be my new “go-to” choice when visiting the ice cream parlor or grabbing a carton from the store.
Can’t Wait? Make a Ginger Ale Float
With the announcement of the new Hudsonville Ice Cream flavor still fresh, it will be a little while before you can find the Comeback Cooler on store shelves. Until then, why not grab a carton of vanilla Hudsonville Ice Cream and create its inspiration taste for yourself?
A ginger ale float is super easy to make. Simply add a few scoops of vanilla ice cream to a glass and then top it off with ice cold ginger ale. It’s ready to enjoy!
