Thank you Visit Fort Wayne for hosting us and introducing us to these awesome local places to eat!
This is my biggest hurdle when traveling – where to find good food. Today we are going to take a look at six places we’ve actually dined at and can recommend. Picky eaters, kids, date night? There’s something for everyone in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Good Food Is an Art
I keep several different travel apps on my phone at all times – mainly for the sole purpose of looking up food reviews.
Food is personal.
I am a very picky eater but not in the terms of what I’ll eat because I’ll try anything! No, my bias comes from not wanting to get food poisoning and wanting to eat at a location that is clean and well loved.
I feel there is a stark difference in places to eat that simply shell out food in mass production and those who put love and care into every item they create.
Food is an art, therefore, I cannot wait to share with you some of my favorite places to eat in Fort Wayne that have proven to create it perfectly and uniquely.
Although food is personal and my tastes might not be the same as yours, I think having a good list of tried options is a great place to start and extremely valuable while traveling to new places. So here are our top picks for places to eat in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

When looking to tempt my taste buds in a whole new way, Tolon is the place I’d go. This upscale location offered expertly prepared classics with new creative twists. For instance, one of our favorite appetizers on the menu was the deviled eggs paired with miso, sriracha, bacon, chives, and sesame. Talk about taking a classic and changing the entire taste profile!
This wasn’t the only item on the menu that left me confused and in awe all at the same time! Dining at Tolon is an eye opening experience. One that’s not soon to be forgotten – in a good way.
2. Hoppy Gnome
The Hoppy Gnome is located in the downtown district and not only offers plates bursting with flavor but a homemade beer list to match! What we loved most about the Hoppy Gnome is their dedication to crafting meals with fresh ingredients. Plus, many of their dishes pay homage to the taco in new, bright, and interesting ways.
Being huge taco fans, we found the flavors of the Hoppy Gnome to be on point and incredibly unique!
3. Yummi Bunni
If we are driving anywhere near Fort Wayne, we always put Yummi Bunni on our list! This creative take on an ice cream shop is like nothing we’ve ever seen or experienced before. Imagine, a glazed donut “bun”, a few generous scoops of ice cream sandwiched between, and several choices of cereal or cookie for topping it off.
This ice cream burger just made dessert a whole lot more interesting!
Casa is an Italian family restaurant that definitely seems to have its “regulars” who come back time and time again. From our experience, I can see why. Casa is a comfortable location that serves one of the best house salad we’ve ever had! They even have their own Casa dressing – which I can’t even begin to describe! It’s just incredibly good!
5. Food Trucks at Freimann Square
When looking for places to dine, it’s always fun to think outside the box and Freimann Square in downtown Fort Wayne makes it easy! Lunch on the Plaza is a fun community building event that takes place 11:30 – 1:30 every Thursday, June – August. For this event, several food trucks line the streets and those looking to have lunch in the sun can buy a plate and sit on the grass to eat it.
To top off this unique, family-friendly event, Lunch on the Plaza even has scheduled live music to enjoy!
Not only is DeBrands a tasty place to buy a few sweets to take home with you but they also offer dining options on site. The menu mostly consists of tempting chocolate themed tastes such as cheesecake, ice cream sundaes, hot cocoa, and gourmet smores.
Also, before you leave, be sure to ask about their factory tour and don’t forget to try DeBrands fabulous connoisseur collection. This collection brings different flavors from around the globe and combines them with a chocolate finish. A travelers dream come true.
Finding new places to dine while traveling can be frustrating but it can also be rewarding. Fort Wayne, Indiana has proven itself to me to be a wonderful place to find new and exciting culinary artists.
