Thank you, Detroit Zoo, for providing us with tickets to see all of this in person! We can’t wait to check it out!
Have you ever seen the Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo? If this is the first year you’re planning to attend or you are one to never miss it, I have the inside scoop about what awaits you at the 2017 event! I am excited to let you know that there are a few new things to see and at least six things that are totally not-to-miss! Ready to hear what they are?
Now in its fifth year. . .
That’s right – can you believe it? The Detroit Zoo has been putting together this amazing event for five years now! Although, there really is no wonder to its popularity. . .
There is something magical about walking along an illuminated path during the chill of winter. The light reflections glistening in the freshly fallen snow. It is absolutely breathtaking!
During the Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo, that illumination is magnified by around 5 million LED lights strung along trees, buildings, and sculptures. Can you picture it?
6 Not-To-Miss Things at Wild Lights 2017
While the lights alone are enough to bring me back year after year, there is a bit more to this event than just that. Here are six things to make sure and keep an eye out for during the 2017 Wild Lights event.
1. NEW: Interactive Field of Lights
New this year to the Wild Lights is an interactive field of lights located in front of the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery. This display will allow visitors to watch 600 3ft. light tubes as they sway along to the playing music.
I cannot wait to see this! Be sure to follow along on my Instagram page because this sounds worthy of posting.
2. NEW: Antarctic-Themed Digital Projection Display
Also, new this year will be an Antarctic-themed digital projection display on the Polk Penguin Conservation Center building!
I can’t wait to see what this entails. Have you seen the new conservation center?? It is quite impressive!
3. NEW: Giant Bug Display
Doesn’t this sound fun? This year, in the main picnic grove, guests will find several giant insects – such as a praying mantis, scorpion, centipede, and ladybugs.
For my bug-loving kids, I am sure this is going to be a hit!
4. 2,400-Square-Foot Ice Skating Rink
Not only does the Wild Lights have things to look at but it also has things to do! For instance, open during the event is a 2,400-square-foot ice skating rink where guests can rent skates or bring their own.
Tickets to the skating rink are $5 per person/per session without skate rental or $7 including skate rental.
5. 4-D Showing of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
For us, the holidays aren’t complete without at least one viewing of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer! That’s why we love that the Wild Lights event offers a 4-D showing at Wild Adventure Zone’s 4-D Theater.
Tickets to watch the movie are $5 per person.
6. Package Pricing
When planning to attend the Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo, be sure to take a look at the package pricing available before purchasing your tickets. This is an easy way to save a few bucks over walk-up pricing.
