Thank you, Warner Bros for sending us a free copy of the new LEGO NINJAGO Movie to review and for providing our giveaway.
Typically, when I talk about the harshness of winter, I’m really talking to those in the Midwest and areas where temps get below freezing! However, this year it seems that many states are experiencing chilling temps. Snow in Florida? What? So, I’ve included you all in my thoughts and may the warmth return to us all soon! Although, until that happens, let’s talk about a few fun ways my family uses to beat the winter blues together.
Winter can be super tough, especially when you have kids… and those kids have a lot of energy… and everyone is bored ALL THE TIME! So, over the many years that I’ve lived in a state that I can’t feel my face during several months out of the year, I’ve come up with a few solutions to fighting the winter blues.
We’ve got a free LEGO NINJAGO Movie Giveaway! Don’t miss your chance to enter!
6 Fun Ideas for Winter Family Fun
Sometimes planning winter fun can seem taxing but I have a few easy solutions!
1. Plan a movie premiere night at home.
There isn’t much that my family loves more than snuggling up on a cold winter night with a bowl of popcorn and a family-friendly movie to watch! Luckily, we all have pretty similar taste in movies and the new LEGO NINJAGO Movie was our most recent good pick (you can enter to win this movie at the bottom of this post; don’t miss it!).
Already done this? Here are a few ways to mix things up:
- Create a popcorn mixing station with add-on ingredients such as chocolate chips, cereals, or different flavor toppings.
- Decorate or cook according to the theme. Having dinner before the movie? Look for fun ways to incorporate the theme into the meal.
- Create a better theatre experience. Move furniture, bring out the pillows and blankets and get comfy.
2. Get Artsy.
Creating art together is another fun thing we love to do! Pull out the paints, canvases, paper, and crayons; there is no limit to the fun that can be had!
3. Go Outdoors.
I know going outdoors isn’t always possible, especially when the temperature drops below freezing. However, what I’ve learned is that going outside in the winter, when it is safe to do so, is a great way to burn some energy and improve my mood. Even if I’m not the one on the tube, heading over to the hill for some sledding can usually turn out to be a pretty fun time.
4. Set up Camp Indoors.
This is another one of our favorite things to do in the winter; we create a mini campground in our living room! To do this, we move what furniture we can out of the way, set up our tents and sleep “under the stars” from the comfort of our heated house.
This could even be incorporated into an “outdoor movie night” and include the fun of idea #1!
5. Play Indoor Sports.
The winter months are the perfect time for trying those indoor sports that it was always to nice outside for you to try in the summer. Things like going to a rollerskating rink, playing indoor laser tag, or maybe try a hand at whirlyball.
6. Find Something Everyone Can Enjoy.
This can be a little more tough, especially with a wide range of ages. However, my family found out that we really enjoy building LEGO’s together. We also enjoy putting together puzzles. Incorporating some family time into our nightly routine has certainly helped us beat the winter blues.
