Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.
Do you remember Scooby-Doo? Chances are if you’ve turned on a tv anytime since 1969, this iconic show has probably at least crossed your path once or twice. And since it’s beginning as a made for television series, Scooby-Doo has been remastered into several spin-off features. However, none of that really matters. Why? Because the new film release of Daphne and Velma is NOTHING like the rest.

Daphne and Velma Releases on DVD and Digital May 22nd
When I was offered a chance to get a sneak peek at the new Daphne & Velma film from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, I was guessing it would be just another remake of the classic series. Boy, was I wrong! Instead, this movie highlights the leading ladies in a relevant mystery-solving adventure all of their own!
Starring Sarah Jeffery (Disney’s “Descendants: Wicked World”) and Sarah Gilman (ABC’s “Last Man Standing”), this film ended up being a family favorite that we will want to watch again and again. Why? Let’s take a closer look at this slightly scary, super engaging mystery-solving film to find out.
From the Creators –
Jinkies! Your favorite mystery solving teenagers are back in an all-new, live-action feature length movie! State of the art robots and high-tech gadgets are common sights at Ridge Valley High, an innovative center of learning for some of the brightest minds in the country, including new transfer student, the bright & optimistic Daphne Blake (Sarah Jeffery) who is excited to finally go to school with her online bestie, the whip-smart & analytical Velma Dinkley (Sarah Gilman). But not everything is as innocent as it seems as mysterious disappearances begin to plague the top-performing students on campus. Once cheery and full of life, kids now appear in a “zombiefied” state – lifeless and shells of themselves. Can Daphne and Velma learn to work together and save the students or will they become the next victims? Get ready for thrills and laughs as we follow the first adventures of Mystery Inc.’s fierce female duo.
What We Thought About the Film
When the film started to play on our screen, I quickly darted a side-eyed glance at my kids. Would this be too scary for them? I was feeling a bit nervous myself (you’ll see why). However, as the film continued, we found ourselves wanting to endure the (pretty age-appropriate) fright just to see what was going to happen next!
Plus, when all was said and done, we thought that it was fun to try and guess “who did it?” along with this cast – which ended up being STELLAR by the way. The two leading ladies were smart, brave, and everything I wanted my kids to see portrayed in a film. Applause to them!
Oh! And speaking of the cast – wait until you meet the new (and improved) Velma! I did not see that coming!

The Scooby Gang are terrific crime-solvers!
I loved watching Scooby Doo as a child. My favorite character was Scrappy Doo. I think he is funny.
