Thanks to Warner Bros. for giving me early access to the film and access to the cast (Siena Agudong) of Alex and Me. The opinions I share are my own.
You may have seen her on Nickelodeon’s “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn” or as “Tiffany” in her recurring role on TVLand’s “Teachers”. And now, in just a few short days, we will all be able to see Siena Agudong star in the newest Warner Bro’s release of Alex and Me!
We will have more information about this film coming soon but before we get to that, let’s take a moment and chat with the star of the film, Siena Agudong!
Interview: Siena Agudong of Alex and Me
A huge thank you to Siena Agudong for taking the time to answer my questions! My questions are below in bold and her answers follow. Enjoy!
I read that you were interested in soccer and being healthy and active, do you feel this interest helped you in this role?
Yes, it really did. I really loved soccer before so going into the project so I was so excited to film it. It was [just] such an amazing experience to do two things that I loved so much; soccer and acting.
Were you a fan of Alex Morgan prior to this show?
Yes, I definitely was and I am such a fan afterward as well. I’m reading her book and watching her soccer games much more than I used to; I’m definitely fangirling more after.
Do you have any siblings and do you feel like you have to compete with them – like you did with your brother in the film?
I have three sisters. They’re all older. We’re not competitive with what we do. [My one sister] she’s a great singer and I act; we really just support each other.
Alex and Me is all about learning to believe in yourself. Do you have any advice for young girls to help them build their confidence?
Yes, I truly believe that if you believe in yourself you can achieve great things. So I’d say, to build confidence just go along with the ride and know that God has a plan for you. Trust the process and just enjoy life. Be yourself.
How did it feel that you got the part in this movie?
Oh my gosh, it was amazing. Probably the look that I gave my mom and the look she gave me was just so priceless. We both looked and each other and started sobbing because we were so excited. I remember immediately going and watching all Alex’s’ games and [then] I went to Target and bought a ball to start practicing.
Were you surprised or did you have a good feeling when you were auditioning?
I was actually offered this role, so when I got the call I was so excited!
Was there any advice that Alex Morgan gave you?
There are so many things that she said that I will forever take with me. Especially when she would tell me to have confidence in myself. There were a lot of tricks that were hard for me and she would always support me – tell me Siena believe in yourself and believe in the trick and do it.
I noticed that through your active lifestyle you’re quite the role model. What is one thing about you that you want girls to know so they can relate to you as a peer?
I am very determined and I don’t really give up. If I have a goal I really do my best to achieve it.
What is the one thing you want viewers to take away from the film?
That hard work pays off and never stop believing in yourself. As long as you work as hard as you can you will succeed.
Did you have any soccer experience before this film?
Yes, I did play soccer before with AYSO. Two weeks prior to the movie they brought in two trainers for me – this really really helped me.
What do you do to prepare for auditions?
There are a lot of things that I go through as my routine. I always listen to music and jam out. This helps take away my nerves. But I also go over my lines and pray.
Alex is your mentor in the movie, do you have a real-life mentor?
Yes, that would be my older sister Sydney. She really inspires me because she works so hard on her singing. I always look up to her and follow what she did. That’s how I got into acting because she started doing plays, so I started doing plays.
How do you keep up with studies during acting?
Yeah, it’s pretty hard to keep up with studies during acting but it’s important to keep up with my grades. So, I have a set tutor that helps me and I also do classes online. My favorite subject is probably either science or Spanish.
What else do you like to do in your free time?
When I’m not acting or filming I like to hang out with my family at the beach or play with my animals. I also love doing parkour!
What advice do you have for a young kid who wants to start acting?
Something that I learned over the years that really helped me is that all I want to do is surprise myself. Nothing is a mistake, just use it. Plus, believe that you can do it.
During the filming was there anything that you found challenging?
Definitely learning the tricks but I worked really hard to overcome them.
In terms of acting, where do you see yourself in five to ten years?
My goals would be to be in a big action movie, on the big screen. I’d also like to be working beside Melissa McCarthy or the Rock!
What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Chocolate chip cookie dough, by far!
