Traverse City, Michigan is a mecca of great tasting wine and other spirits. Frankly, you can barely go a mile without bumping into yet another vineyard. So, how do you make the most of your time and pick out the places that are really spectacular to visit? I’m here to help. Recently, I visited the Traverse City wine trail to find the most noteworthy of them all. This is my list of the top five, must-see wineries to visit in Traverse City, Michigan.
Take the Traverse City Wine Trail
The wine trail in Michigan is really a must see! Especially if you didn’t even realize Michigan had such a vast wine production industry. So, now that you know it exists, let’s take a look at the top five must-visit locations along the Traverse City wine trail.
1. 2 Lads Winery
If you’re looking for a modern take on a winery, 2 Lads is a great location to visit! The updated tasting room features floor to ceiling windows with a gorgeous view over the vineyards and Grand Traverse Bay.
Plus, tastings here are either $7 or free with a wine purchase of $25 or more.
My favorite wine at this location: 2017 Riesling 2L Vineyard
2. Bry’s Estate
I’m not going to lie, this location stood out as my overall favorite! Not only did they have a “walking wine tasting” but they have a deck overlooking the vineyards where you can order charcuterie and snacks. This two pair well with the nicely chilled frose’ also on the menu!
My favorite wine at this location: 2017 Naked Chardonnay Reserve
3. Mari Vineyards
Speaking of breath-taking views, this one takes the cake! Mari Vineyards is a great location to grab a glass of wine and relax on the patio overlooking the bay. With a bunch of seating provided at this location, it seems to be the top spot to sit and mingle.
Mari Vineyards is also noteworthy for another reason, this is the interesting way in which they store their wine. Interesting as it is, Mari Vineyards uses a 3,000 square-foot cave buried more than 10 feet underground. Think of it as a wine cave of sorts.
This location also serves hard ciders!
4. Black Star Farms
Black Star Farms is a great place to start if you are new to wine tasting or what that “traditional” feel. The staff was super helpful in explaining the different wines and suggesting new flavors to try.
My favorite wine at this location: Delighted – sweet bubbly rose’ (tasted like pop rocks!)
5. Traverse City Whiskey Co.
Ok, ok. This one isn’t a winery (obviously) but it certainly is noteworthy and worth a visit! At this location, they offer tastings along with a traditional bar to pull up a chair and chill out. They also make one of the best old fashions I’ve ever had.
Don’t forget to pick up a jar of their bar cherries before heading out! Because we all know Traverse City knows how to grow their cherries and these ones are spectacular!
Have you been on the Traverse City Wine Trail? Which location stood out as your favorite and why? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
