Disclosure: Thank you to the Detroit Zoo for sponsoring this DINOSAURIA post.
The dinosaurs are back at the Detroit Zoo! Now through Labor Day, zoo guests can purchase tickets to experience DINOSAURIA – a temporary exhibit which adds extra exploration and discovery to a day at the zoo. At DINOSAURIA, more than 40 animatronic dinosaurs hide in the woods waiting to be found.
What else can be found by adding DINOSAURIA to a day of play? We recently visited this exhibit as a family and here is what we discovered. . .
It’s a Walk in the Park
DINOSAURIA is a fun addition to the Detroit Zoo because it adds to the overall zoo experience with something that is totally different! Without leaving the zoo, we found ourselves transported into another time. A time with forest lined dirt trails and a place with dinosaurs lurking around every corner.
The fact that DINOSAURIA is within the park gates but separated from the rest of the exhibits is a plus! It’s easy to find but once we passed through the fog-filled dino bones and on to the dirt path, it was a totally new experience. Then, after we finished exploring the dinosaurs, we still had the rest of the day ahead of us to enjoy the things about the Detroit Zoo that we love on a regular basis.
History Comes to Life
Learning about dinosaurs has always been something my family was interested in and DINOSAURIA gave us a chance to bring that learning to life! Imagine standing beneath a towering t-rex and feeling it’s massive roar. What about seeing a baby dinosaur try and break free from its egg? With the realistic animatronic dinosaurs found throughout the woods at DINOSAURIA, all of this is possible.
Adding to the fun of seeing dinosaurs that move, roar, and sometimes spit water, this exhibit also facilitates learning with fact signs and hands-on play opportunities.
We also loved trying to pronounce all of the dinosaur names. . . Seriously, have you ever heard of a Quetzalcoatlus? How do you even pronounce that??
There is a fine line between dinosaurs being fun and being scary. I think the Detroit Zoo walks this line perfectly, making it a great event for all ages to attend!
Yes, the dinosaurs move but not in a threatening way. Their eyes might turn to look at you (which is enough to give me the chills) and they may turn their heads but they always keep their spot on the ground. Since they do not walk or move positions on the ground, my kids were free to create their own safe distance and enjoy the experience fully.
The Detroit Zoo | Where Memories are Made
We love that the Detroit Zoo is always bringing in new exhibits or fun events to keep things fresh and new! Being zoo members, we enjoy coming back time and time again throughout the entire year. So many of our family memories have been made at the Detroit Zoo and special exhibits and events like DINOSAURIA are the perfect backdrops to those memories.
