A few months back my beautiful daughter decided that she wanted to be a vegetarian. . . Ok, I thought. We could handle this. Easy, right?
I had always been on the verge of going all veggie myself but never stuck with it for lack of better option. What I mean is that I got hungry and tired of daily mac-n-cheese. Eating vegetarian is hard when you were raised in a meatatarian family and figuring out what to make besides the common pb&j alternative was a struggle.
Fast forward to the present and my culinary library still hasn’t grown up much. I had no ideas of what to feed her. Thankfully, I care more about my daughters’ nutrition more than I ever did my own and I was determined to teach myself to feed her in this vegetarian lifestyle that she’s chosen. Besides, my family could all use a few new dishes on the table because getting into a dinner rut is my specialty!
We Decided to Give HelloFresh a Try!
Over the past couples of months, several people in my family have tried HelloFresh and raved about it! The overall consensus is that it is a great tool for learning how to cook taste-filled dishes. While I loved this aspect, it’s was the veggie meal plan that really peaked my interest. Could they really teach me to cook homemade vegetarian meals that didn’t taste like seaweed?
Sous Chef Delivered
When the first delivery of meals came directly to my door (saving me grocery shopping time), I popped it open to find that the ingredients are pre-measured (handy) and accompanied by easy to follow recipes (heck yeah). With everything so easy to follow, I almost felt as though I had someone in the kitchen helping me along; teaching me the skills that I so desperately desired. Plus, the pre-measured help kept things moving along and all of the dinners sent to me could be prepared and on the table in around 30 minutes! Completely homemade in under 30?? Wha??!!
What’s better yet is that everything we’ve had so far has been a new recipe for us! Many recipes stemming from different countries around the world. I can barely even pronounce some of the meals I’ve made – how awesome is that!? Perfect for adventurers like ourselves.
But what it really comes down to is the ingredients. Are they really that fresh? Here’s the simplest answer: heck yes! It’s the “chop your own garlic and remove the corn from the husk” type of fresh. No canned veggies here! And because I don’t want you all to think I’m well versed in the kitchen, pulling my own herbs from the stem took a bit of getting used to. . . just sayin’.
Worth the Cost?
After giving HelloFresh a try, I can honestly say that I’m sold on it! Not only has my time spent at the grocery diminished but I feel like I am finally feeding my daughter (and my family) good, fresh meals. Plus, the aromas of the spices and herbs makes my house smell amazing and the recipes are mine to keep even if I decide to discontinue my service.
Think about it, this type of education is priceless. If they’d only had this when I was just starting out on my own. I wouldn’t have had to eat so many boxed meals! 🙂
So what DOES it cost? Well, for 3 weekly meals for 4 people, we pay $9.99 per serving. This adds up to about $119 weekly and we always have leftovers! For us, that’s less than I was paying when I pieced meals together myself.
Remember, if you decide to check out HelloFresh for yourself, there are several different meal plans to choose from.
