It’s a funny feeling to be in the drivers seat on a race track; controlling the roar of the engine, adrenaline coursing through your veins, listening intently to the silence fill your head. You feel in control. Not ready, but also ready to soar – all at the same time.
Do those feelings sound familiar? They should because the experiences felt while driving a race car can be a lot like those felt while moving through life. A connection also shared with us from a philosophical dog named Enzo in the soon-to-be released movie “The Art of Racing in the Rain.”
In this film, Enzo tells the story of his life with owner and best friend Denny, a Formula One race car driver. Although being sometimes misunderstood, since he’s a dog, his struggles and insight towards the present and the future are thought-provoking and inspiring. I especially loved how he was able to develop a keen understanding of the world around him by observing and listening, even when those around him dismissed his abilities based on who he was.
Overall: while becoming a bit drenched in tragedy and somewhat odd at times, this film is one that I think many people will be able to relate to on a deeper level…no matter their affinity to racing or cars in general.

Planning to See the Film? Here’s What to Expect (Without Spoilers)
Fair Warning: Bring Tissues.
I think that many of us have become well aware that when there is a dog involved in a movie, it’s going to tug at the heartstrings. This movie, from the same studio that brought you “Marley & Me,” is no exception! It’s a beautifully written and produced film that has a way of pulling you in and leaving you sobbing in your seat. Be sure to pack lots of tissues or grab some napkins with your snacks while heading in!
Date Night or Bring the Kids?
I don’t recall many moments that would be inappropriate for kids in this film and it is only rated PG. However, I would still keep this one for a night out with the girls or significant other. Yes, there is an adorable dog but also a lot of grown up issues discussed that I don’t think my kids, in particular, would be ready to handle.
