If you haven’t made time to just walk around and appreciate the city while visiting Atlanta, I highly recommend it! Atlanta is a beautiful destination with a excellent food scene, public art, and surprisingly, quite a few filming locations under it’s belt.
On a recent trip to Atlanta,Georgia for a conference with A Girls Guide to Cars, I decided to seek out the best places to take a photo in and around the city. While I am sure there are many more awesome places to discover, these were my favorites!
Where to Take a Photo in Atlanta: 7 Instagram Worthy Spots
World of Coca Cola Atlanta
When I started making plans to visit Atlanta, everyone had the same advice: make sure you visit the World of Coca Cola while you’re there! This sounded like a great plan! Although, being on a bit of a time-crunch, I was only able to see the outside of the building. Although, it did have some cool Coca Cola related landscaping to enjoy from this external perspective… I guess this gives me reason to return.
This is a fun mural photo opportunity with an undoubtedly vintage feel!
Where to find these destinations:
If you see a destination in this list you’d like to discover for yourself. Simply click on the Instagram image geo-tag and it will bring up the coordinates within the app. From here, simply click on the map, open it in maps, and click “directions”.
Jackson Street Bridge
I doubt that there is a better view of the city than this one! From the pedestrian walk over on Jackson Street Bridge, we were able to take a step back from the city chaos and simply enjoy its breath-taking beauty.
It is said that the Jackson Street Bridge is the most photographed bridge in Atlanta. Mainly because of its iconic view, but also because it was in the opening scene of “The Walking Dead”.
The Big Chicken
This one makes the list because if you’ve followed our site for any length of time, you probably know how much we love big roadside attractions. And if you don’t know, we love them A LOT!
Besides, come on, its a BIG chicken!! How cool is that?
Murals: Marietta Square
Another thing I noticed while visiting Atlanta is that there is quite a bit of neat murals around the city. From what I heard from other #GirlsDrive2019 attendees, Marietta Square is a great place to start looking. Also check out StreetArtMap.org for a pretty substantial list.
“Stranger Things” Filming Locations
Did you know that Atlanta, Georgia is home to several scenes from the t.v. series, Stranger Things? We drove around to see as many as them as possible, like the “Hawkins Memorial Hospital” (which is actually Emory Adventists Hospital).
“The Walking Dead” Filming Locations
And because “The Walking Dead” also has quite a few Atlanta filming locations, we attempted to stop by a few of these as well. Like this, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Can anyone place what episode this is from?
Staying A While? Places to Eat & Sleep Nearby
Planning to spend some time in Atlanta while you look for photo-worthy locations? Here are a few recommendations for places to eat and stay.
Where to Stay:
We stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Atlanta-Marietta during our trip and really enjoyed this space. The lobby had a vintage-inspired feel and food was always nearby with a dining area on the main floor.
Where to Eat:
We experienced several dining options during our stay, but my favorite by far was Marlows Tavern. And if you enjoy vegetarian options, they have on the menu a Grain & Veggie Poke bowl. I thought it was fantastic! Any food photographers here?
